Find the Courage Inside Yourself to Publish A Book
There are hundreds of things in life that take courage. Skydiving, starting a business, marriage, rappelling down a mountain, ending a relationship, saying no – usually the scary things that may cause a big change in your life. However, when you go through something that takes a lot of courage do you look back and regret it? Perhaps sometimes, but usually the things that take the most courage also give the biggest reward.
The same is true for writing and publishing a book. Especially if it's your first book, publishing can take a big spoonful of courage. But imagine the accomplishment you will feel when you hold your book in your hands for the first time; the risk and reward that come from being a published author. Publishing can seem like an overwhelming and daunting task that has no beginning and no end, but it doesn't have to be. Hopefully this article with its five steps to help you find the courage inside yourself to publish a book will help you step back, connect with your inner courage (we all have it!) and take the publishing plunge.
1. Surround yourself with positive people.
Before you even start walking down your publishing path you have to choose the people you want to come with you. This could be your family, the friends you've had since childhood or the group of writers in your community you just met. No matter who they are, make sure they understand your aspirations and your fears. They should be people who give you positive feedback and nurture your dream, not tear it down. These should be the people who cheer you on every step of the way, but are honest with you too.
2. Banish fear from your life.
Fear is a writing and publishing killer. Fear is a dream killer. Fear gets in the way of you achieving your dreams and can cripple you if you don't deal with fear before you even start writing. Be honest with yourself – what are you most fearful of? Once you identify all your fears, write them down, tear up the paper and tell your fears goodbye. Then get writing and show that fear who is boss.
3. Find the right publishing partner.
The best way to achieve success in your writing career is to find the right publishing partner who will walk with you the whole way. Whether you decide to submit your manuscript to a traditional publisher or choose to publish with Balboa Press, you must be comfortable with your decision. If you do choose to publish with Balboa Press you will find a team of dedicated professionals who will answer all your questions and be your publishing support team from start to finish.
4. Tap your inner strength.
Once you've made it through the first three steps, the real work begins: writing. Perhaps you've had an idea for a book in your head for years, or maybe it is a new thought. No matter where you are in the writing process, you will need a healthy dose of your inner strength to help you. Take time to refresh yourself and connect with your inner strength in ways only you know.
5. Remember your dream.
During the writing and publishing process there will inevitably be rough days. There will be moments you want to give up and never publish a book. When those moments come, try your best to stop, take a deep breath and focus on your dream. Go back to the reasons you ever wanted to write in the beginning and summon your dream of becoming a published author. You can do it!
Keeping these five steps in mind will help you through the rough days and the days you want to give up and never type another word. Resist the urge to do that and instead re-focus and find that inner courage to jump in to the publishing world with both feet and find that instead of sinking, you swim.
