About the Book
My Mum was 74 when she began her Dementia journey, being firstly diagnosed with cognative memory loss, followed by an Alzheimers diagnosis. This book charts our journey through that, living together, as a family, whilst, as her carer, I walked through it at home with her until her death nearly 11 years later. She changed, I changed, we laughed, we cried, we struggled as we witnessed as a family mum's transformation from a vibrant woman to an immobile, non verbal shadow of her former self .As difficult as it was, we stayed together and we walked through it with God and with love until He called her home.
About the Author
This is Tracy’s first book and comes straight from the heart as she discusses her experience walking through dementia with her beloved mum with us, the reader. Her voice is conversational and intimate as she takes us on this journey with her by way of a diarised account over a 10 year period. It is not the account of someone ‘in the know’ but a recounting of her deeply personal and often painful experience with a destructive and debilitating disease which is affecting more and more of the worlds’ elderly population. There is no right or wrong in this book, just her and her family’s caring experience, the ups, the downs, the mistakes and the loss. It is honest and at times funny and often makes reference to how important her Christian faith was to her throughout. It is very relevant to everyday family life.
