I never thought I would be sitting alone, again, in my living room, heartbroken and crying. I am missing someone who just happens to be an accused murderer. Me, Lucy Brown, a miss strait-laced woman involved with a murderer. I am a middle-aged, educated, fluffy white woman who has grown kids! This sort of thing just does not happen in small town America. Well, at least in my head it did not or should not have. I have been in enough bad relationships, more than I care to acknowledge, to know better. At least that is what I am telling myself after the fact. There were several red flags, more commonly known as warning signs, that were presented along the way in the relationship. I promised myself as I dived into dating again to watch for them and avoid that person because I would for sure get hurt again if I did not. Red flags as in they cannot support themselves financially, they smoke, partake in drugs, they drink excessively….these were all my red flags to avoid. Not to mention I would not put up with any lying or jealousy. I have also grown to be pretty independent so I definitely could not handle someone that acts like a puppy dog and has to follow me everywhere. I have been in enough rough situations that I would, could and have built a personal security wall faster than any human could blink. That allowed me to be present in life but my ego was ready to put up a barrier if I felt the situation merited it. My friends even joked that is the only time I could run (away from a situation or person). And run fast I did!
