I look back over my life experiences and realize that God had nothing to do with all the misery. Everything I thought I knew had been taught to me by men who are just imperfect human beings. One of the most damaging ideas I was taught is that God is up in Heaven, not in me. Taught that God is outside and apart from me. In order to understand my fear of God better, I decided it was time to take a deep, long, hard look at what I had been taught as a child about God. I wanted to go over every single lesson, thought, and comment I had ever heard and try to figure out where all this fear was coming from. It took me some time to do this, as my childhood had been quite difficult.
