Pages Torn From A Plague...

The beach house,
sunlight through the shades
casting shadow-grates upon the floor,
a mid-morning heat
rising outside from the apple-pie-warmth asphalt
creates shimmering day-ghosts taunting
to come outside, to brave
the coming heat of another day.
The shadow-grates remind
me…life in the city still
awaits – one must always return.
To what; the bustles and hustles
non-existent here? To faster
paces, everywhere to be
yet nowhere to go? To gray
days, ones that only
matter to a page-a-day desk calendar?
The day-ghosts are in repose
now, wrapped in cumulous shawls.
A breeze blows gently, rippling
the shadow-grates ever slightly,
a reminder they too have paces
to keep, the floor their
only canvas to traverse.
Again…a new day begins.
