SOL – SAVE OUR LIBERTY “Lady Liberty is being swallowed by the sea?” Mr. Penny had to repeat what he had just heard. “Yes,” Uncle Sam said, looking Mr. Penny straight in the eye and stopping time. “The rising waters are threatening to drown out her Flame of Freedom. I want You to save her.” Mr. Penny remained motionless and silent, riveted by the severe gaze of his old friend. Uncle Sam continued, “In your last adventure, you did such a wonderful job of shrinking the Dragon of Domeville that I am looking to you to find a way to turn back the mounting seas from submerging Liberty Island. What do you say?” “No Way! Let me out of here!” was the first response that came to Mr. Penny’s mind. But he knew that wouldn’t fly with Uncle Sam. Instead, he stalled, “Please let me think about it for a day or two. It is a tall order, Uncle Sam.” “Two days’ time is pushing it,” cautioned Uncle Sam. “Right, sir. One day then. Better get thinking,” Mr. Penny turned to leave the People’s House. He looked back at Uncle Sam, who was sitting at the big Resolute Desk in the President’s Chair with the Sun and its rays carved into the back. “Just one question before I go…Is the Sun on your chair rising or setting?”

About the Book
Mr. Penny is green….at least in his heart and mind. As Grandma Penny taught him, when in doubt, listen to Mother Nature for the wisdom that flows freely to all generations. The global waters are rising. Lady Liberty’s Flame of Freedom is in danger of being extinguished. In this family picture storybook, Mr. Penny learns that the solution to the climate crisis is in us - our connection to Mother Nature, each other, our roots and the common good. Mr. Penny’s story is a family literary event, having the intention of engagement rather than entertainment, active discussion rather than passive immersion.
About the Author
Lucile McConnell believes in the Five Pillars of Democracy: Choice, Unity, Stewardship, Reciprocity and Equality. She is a commercial transactions attorney. She graduated Cum Laude from Cornell Law School and with Honors in Economics from the University of Chicago. She founded The Fund to End the Deficit and rallied citizens, under Public Law 87-58 (P.L. 87- 58), to make voluntary contributions to retire America’s National Debt. Ms. McConnell has been featured in The Washington Post, USA Today Sunday Magazine and has appeared on Good Morning, America! Now she is focusing her gifts on uniting America to take on the challenge of the Climate Crisis.
