She added some of her musings as well as lyrics of songs she has written to create a musical entitled Heal. This poetry book gives us an insight to what a woman born in the islands of the Philippines’s soulful perspectives are. Since she has lived in various parts of the world, this poetry book portrays how what she learned from her culture and upbringing has shaped her way of thinking and being and which added depth and wisdom in her purpose-laden life. About the Author

An Island Woman’s Heart is a book of poetry that shares the thoughts and musings of a lady physician who was born in the Philippines. Dr. Elizabeth A. Garcia-Janis has travelled and lived in many parts of the world and expresses her heart through her poetry and book writings. She writes about her perspectives on the significance of her roots and how she treasures her culture and people. Though she lives in the USA she values her upbringing which has shaped her life thus far.

Elizabeth A. Garcia-Janis is a double board certified Child and Adult Psychiatrist who has dedicated her life serving those who had suffered disaster, losses and tragedies. She served as chief medical officer and medical director in various organizations and hospitals. Dr. Garcia-Janis has volunteered doing intensive short term disaster relief work in many parts of the world: The Mt. Pinatubo volcanic eruption in the Philippines; the Katrina evacuees in Houston, Texas; the tsunami in Thailand; the Nicaraguan refugees in Costa Rica and uplifted Clean Water for the World in Uganda. She also responded to the tribal emergency declared by a Lakota Native American tribal president regarding the youth suicides in the Pine Ridge reservation.

Dr. Garcia-Janis was granted the Distinguished Fellow award by the American Psychiatric Association. She was also awarded Physician of the Year in 2009 by the Medi-Star Medical News. The Leading Physicians of the World organization honored her as the Top Psychiatrist 2013. She has received numerous recognitions regarding her humanitarian work locally and globally.

Dr. Garcia-Janis founded the Phoenix Global Humanitarian Foundation and its mission is to serve those who suffered disasters, losses and tragedies. She authored the books The Courage to Encourage, The Phoenix Miracle, and Your Compassionate Nature. She co-authored the book Utmost with Dr. Ashis Brahma
