Because the 1950 law, Fault Divorce, would give his wife custody of their daughter, Edward cannot divorce Lillian and marry his true love, Sara. The deaf child is terrified of her mother. Within her silent world, the child creates her own sanctuary by fantasizing. She gazes in her mother’s mirror and creates her own imaginary world. The mirror is the catalyst that brings the story to full culmination. As the story evolves the protagonist is forced to change his unassertive behavior. He taunts his wife to file for a divorce, and schemes to retain custody of his daughter. Court scenes demonstrate the antiquated, prejudicial laws used against women in the 1950s. Court trials expose the unethical tactics used by a judge behind chamber doors, unscrupulous attorneys who manipulate the legal system, and a cover-up of evidence by the police department. The child dies by mysterious circumstances, and is concealed as an accident. As a result, Lillian becomes increasingly unstable, and is haunted by ghostlike images in the mirror. Lillian’s self-guilt creates its own reality and increases her paranoia. Lillian dies by the same eerily strange scenario that her daughter died. This book illustrates the psychological and paranormal aspects of self-guilt. Today's increasing interest in psychic phenomena, and the destructive effect of self-guilt, give this story broad appeal.

About the Author
MARIE HARRIETTE KAY is a writer, author, artist, psychic, natural medium, and a teacher of parapsychology. She was married and raised three children. Marie was born the seventh of eight children in Detroit, Michigan. Coincidentally, it is said the seventh child is often psychic. Marie begin her psychic training with June Black, a psychic medium who came to United States from London England. She became Mrs. Black’s assistant, and for seven years studied meditation, psychometry, healing, spirit communication, past life regression, mediumship, and much more. She has mentored, instructed, and lectured on many phases of parapsychology. Marie studied creative writing at a local community college. On her first try at writing, she won top prize for her story, ‘A DAY IN COURT.’ She has written an instruction manual for novice and/or teachers demonstrating easy methods to develop one’s innate sixth-sense and spiritual awareness.
