When you believe you can't do something, you won't; fear stops you. The converse is also true. When you believe you can, even though you have never tried it before, you do it. It becomes your reality.
The same is true with having a quiet mind. Most people do not think it is possible. Why? Because of past conditioning. In the reality in which they live, this is not possible; it is what they believe. Thinking is ever present. They feel the egoic mind is necessary in order to function in daily life. They believe it because that is all they know. The mind will automatically raise objections, because that is how it exists. If thinking stopped all together, what would happen to the me and my story? The prospect of a blank mind terrifies the false self. The ego is afraid of the nothingness, the emptiness, that is conscious awareness, which is your onion’s core. It will do anything it can to stop you from going there.
Take a step back and look on the inside at the struggle that will happen between who you have believed yourself to be and who you really are. Does this sound like a daunting task? For most people it is, but only because they believe it will be. It's a mental concept, which is nothing more than a thought, that creates the barrier.
Change your belief, and it is yours! Like any gift or reward, it’s free, no strings attached.
What would life look like if you were given this gift of a quiet mind? The mind will have to know on a conceptual level before it will let go. Fear of the unknown will hold you back. Let's take a look at a quiet mind and what it is like in daily life.
For some people this will happen quickly, and on rare occasions it happens instantly. That all depends on conscious awareness. It decides when and how the gift is given. For most people, it takes timeand effort. They have to go through the process of self-discovery first.
This gradual process of peeling back the layers of the false self, can take months or even years. But you will notice that as you let go of the limiting beliefs, and you relax more and more into your true self, your mind will have less and less to think about. Life is still happening, but it's now much more pleasant. The drama that used to plague you in your life dissipates or disappears. How you react to events and people changes. You will begin to feel the presence of something new inside you. Words do not do it justice; rather, it's a feeling of inner peace, contentment and love. The old feelings of fear fade away, and life becomes very joyful.
