A Journey from Dust to Consciousness

Every year, forty days before Easter Sunday, Christians celebrate Ash Wednesday. During the hourly celebration a priest blesses ashes and then places them on the forehead of individuals saying words handed down for generations and believed to be from the Creator namely “Remember man that you are dust, and into dust you shall return.” These are remarkable words and it is remarkable that of all the species on Earth formed from the dust, including the trees, fish, reptiles, amphibians, birds, insects, and mammals, only human beings have the consciousness to understand the meaning of the words. On Earth, only human beings have written languages and are capable of storing data in paper print and electronically to create the ‘Fields of Knowledge’. Our human senses together with the accumulated knowledge of the generations form a picture of the world. It is a picture that can change in time with more knowledge. Human beings can add to the ‘Fields of Knowledge’ changing them for future generations and perhaps forming new ‘Fields of Knowledge’. In a similar manner the stars can change the galaxies creating new fields for new generations of stars. It is an amazing process which leads to a very interesting Universe filled with fields that spawn ever changing stars and minds. Just as the stars were formed from the dust clouds, in nebula, within the galaxies, human beings are formed from the dust on the Earth. Both processes are a remarkable transformation making the dust more energetic and alive. Eventually, the dust runs out of energy and returns to its normal state of being dust. It is as if the dust got energy and became ordered, then, as energy is lost disorder returns. In this book, we will see how a) Dust is transformed into galaxies with stars. b) Dust is transformed into life and consciousness on Earth. The Universe with the galaxies and the stars contain enormous power and energy, time scales in billions of years, enormous forces and fields that are easily understood by human intelligence through the ‘Fields of Knowledge’. Like the galaxies, the ‘Fields of Knowledge’ are diverse including all forms of human work and activity. The atoms that come to life, in a sense, on worlds around the stars contain enormous power and energy. They can transform themselves from solids, to liquid, to gases and vice versa. The atoms can automatically use energy from the star to form molecules and chains of molecules. The atoms can convert energy into life, if the conditions around the star are suitable or if the Creator allows it to come about. The genetic code in all lifeforms, allows for reproduction and the complex process of allowing for millions of chemical reactions that occur automatically within the bodies of all plants and animals. This justifies the religious belief of a Creator. Metabolism within the bodies of plants and animals converts food into energy without the individual lifeform knowing it is happening. Life can become conscious of its surroundings via sensors in the case of plants and via a brain and sensors in the case of animals. Earth’s surface has varying temperatures and pressures resulting in different climatic conditions. This gives rise to different biomes where plants and animals live in mutually beneficial relationships. Human consciousness is unique and capable of transforming a planet like Earth by utilizing the available energy.
