I noticed that everyone had gotten quiet before I saw him walking toward the pool. It was The Goddess' Chris wearing a black leather-looking Speedo - and a matching bra. Slinky started to cough uncontrollably and I could see her eyes tearing trying to suppress the laughter.
Carmen stopped cold in the middle of a lap, stared, and said, "Jesus, is that twisted, or what?"
As if on cue, Moe chomping on a cigar with a beach towel slung over his shoulder and the Wall Street Journal under his arm walked out of Julie's back door. Moe was no beauty and needed to back away from the buffet more as his stomach was beyond sucking in. Sue scampered after him, like her mother, loving that a man was in residence.
"What the fuck?" Moe said, checking out Chris.
"Oh, pleeeeeeease," Chris said, "what is all the fuss? I just like dressing up and Moe, if you don't mind my saying so, you could use a little push up in that area yourself."
"It ain't enough to have all these broads around and now they've added a fairy," Moe said.
"You got anything pierced that we don't know about?" Charo said.
"Look, I'm going for a swim. Come on Moe, maybe you'll learn something," Chris said.
"Oh, what the hell," Moe said as he dropped his paper and towel on a chair and headed toward the shallow end.
Carmen swam over to Chris to get a better look at the fabric. She was also quite talented with a needle and could whip a bra up for Moe if it came to that.
I started to get up and head back home when I saw Luke come out of the back of Monistat 1 and head toward us. He looked at Chris, Moe and Carmen in the pool and just the slightest hint of a smile was there for a second.
"Good morning, everyone. Aren't we all looking pretty today. Maebeth, you got some chores lined up for me or should I just be a self-starter an put a fresh coat of paint on The Way of the Cross' exterior? That way I can keep an eye of everything out here should things get out of hand."
"Sounds good. You'll find getting an early start before the heat starts baking everything is the way to go around here," I said.
"Well, that's enough for me," Carmen said stepping out of the pool and grabbing her sarong. "Think I'll do a little gardening this morning."
"I'm working on a writing job so I'm heading home. You coming too, Lily?"
Lily unwound her tall frame from the chaise and we walked over to our back doors.
"I think we be needin' a little chat with The Goddess. She might be as interesting as she looks. Got to get to know her better," Lily said.
