The Law of Detachment refers to abandoning the need for control, whether it regards events, people, or desires.
Most people are troubled by the order of things; having to first choose their targets and then apply the Law of Detachment is a task they find quite difficult. Because of what they have been taught to believe, namely, that success only comes as a result of achieving goals, they will do practically anything to achieve those goals. They
believe that, only if certain conditions exist (i.e. get good grades at school, study at a particular university, marry someone special, or have a senior level job), can they consider themselves successful—and more importantly—can they be considered successful by others. And so they pressure, exploit and degrade themselves and others until they get the results they want. In case they do not succeed, and therefore fail to receive the outside validation they need, they become anxious or confused, and end up losing themselves. Because they have never learned, or realized for that matter, that true value lies within and is not determined by either acts or achievements, or by the people who surround them; even if they surround them with love. When you forget your true self, which is pure conscience and possibility, you begin to feel that you need something outside yourself to make you happy. You presume that you will feel good when you have a million Euros in the bank, when you lose twenty pounds, when you find your soul mate, and so on. Actually, in all those cases, you have placed your power on something outside yourself, thinking that it will determine your happiness. But then again, that frame of mind cannot support you on a regular basis, because whatever exists outside yourself could be lost at any moment.
Having understood who you are now—at the core of your existence—you know that you are part of the universe, that abundance is yours and that you have limitless possibilities.
As of this moment, you are ready to indulge with faith in the journey of life, while being flexible in your methods and keeping an open mind to pursue every possible path that may lead to the results you desire.
You are now able to realize that if you are fixated on achieving a goal (i.e. improving your finances, finding a partner, acquiring the home you want,or getting the scores you need to get into the university) you might exhibit feelings of fear, doubt or longing that will actually attract the opposite of your desire. Likewise, if you worry, fear or doubt, you will cancel out the power of request, and you will fail to receive the things you want, yet again.
Keep in mind that neither luck nor coincidence exist. You therefore need to work with the Law of Attraction to create what you want. Also, it is important to know that, in the creative process, the Law of Detachment is the flip side of the coin. Specifically, the Law of Detachment provides the necessary supplementary action for the Law of Attraction to work, and makes a huge difference in its application.
Detachment is made possible when you have an abundant consciousness; a consciousness that allows you to trust and know that, when the time is right, everything will take its perfect place. You already know—from the Law of Pure Potentiality—that you can be, do, and have anything you want in your life. With the Law of Detachment, you will learn to trust and be confident that the best things can and will happen to you.
Clinging to things, as an attitude of life, has its price. Your conscious or unconscious desire to uphold this standpoint derives from your own need to feel safe and secure. It comes from the fear of the unknown. Nevertheless, it is a tactic that makes you weak. Because, in essence, it automatically puts an end to all evolution. And when there is no evolution, there is stagnation, entropy, disorder and decay. For the simple reason, that lack of evolution is contrary to human nature. It opposes the higher needs of development and progress. And when man fails to meet his needs, he cannot reach the level of fullness and completion that his soul craves.
On the contrary, being detached from the outcome you expect shows real power, knowledge and understanding of how things work in life. It means that you have learned to trust.
If I would attempt to define the meaning of trust, I would say that it is the certainty and knowledge that you will receive what you need. Not necessarily what you think you want—which derives from the Ego—but the thing that really matters to you and that which is in in tune with the reality of your existence.
In order to apply the Law of Detachment, you must follow the creative process below: ask for what you want, focus on what is important, take action on what is in your control and move on to achieve the things you want. The rest is up to the universe. You know well that the results will come. You also have to believe that they will come when the time is right. So, stop worrying, stop feeling nervous and discard every doubt and negative thought.
Otherwise, if you try to create something with lack of trust; feeling insecure, afraid, or in doubt of your ability to succeed, you hinder the efficiency of the universe’s energy flow: in short you create resistance.
