“Julie! You were up early this morning, I saw you standing on the verandah and gave you a wave but you mustn’t have seen me.” Tim Phillips said. Julie looked across Millie who was staring back at her. “The rooster woke me up so I went out to see how the shed was progressing.” Julie lied. Tim told her they should be finished today and will pack up ready to leave early in the morning before daylight. “You can sleep in tomorrow Millie and tonight will be our last meal with you.” As soon as the men left, Millie said. “What he did mean Julie, you weren’t up so who did he see?” “I don’t know Millie; maybe he thought he saw someone, it wasn’t me I only just got up.” “It was her!” Millie said and starting clearing the table, Julie noticed Millie was fidgeting nervously and kept dropping things. Julie didn’t know what to say but she must tell this to Jack and went into the office to get him to come and talk to Millie. Jack said they should tell Mille what is happening in this house and made Julie come with him into the kitchen, Jack sat Mille down and told her she needs to know things about this house, he told his side of the story and then asked Julie to tell Millie hers. Millie stood up and said. “Jack I want to leave, I can’t stay here; I have sensed a presence in this house ever since we moved back, now I know it’s not my imagination.”

Julie spends the night in the house but soon meets a ghost named Lilli who died riding the very horse that walks the grounds. Lilli has a request for her uninvited houseguest: she wants Julie to save her husband.
Ever since Lilli’s death, Dale has been drinking. It won’t be long before he kills himself with booze, so Lilli begs Julie to intercede. Scared to death, Julie agrees but has no plans of actually making contact with Dale. She’s shocked to fi nd she can’t escape Runaway unless she fi rst helps her ghostly friend. Julie must help heal a wounded man and, in the process, heal herself, all on the orders of a ghost who loves too much to leave
About the Author
Sylvia Hammann grew up in a remote small town in the Gulf of Carpentaria, Australia. She left school at the age of thirteen and eventually became a fisherperson. She has three children and sixteen grandchildren and now lives in an Australian fishing town called Karumba.
