Malady

Some time ago, on the edge of a deep forest, there lived a shopkeeper, his wife, and their young daughter. Although the shopkeeper earned but modest wages, he was able to provide a comfortable home for his family.  For years, the three of them lived quite contentedly. Then one day, the wife told the shopkeeper that she wanted another child. And by spring, she had conceived.
Right away, the wife could tell something was very different about this baby. It never ceased to move. It twisted and turned inside the wife’s belly with such frequency and ferocity that it caused her great discomfort. Only the sound of soft music seemed to calm the restless infant. Believing this to be a sign that the child would be musical the shopkeeper and his wife decided to name the baby Melody.
