Sometimes someone comes along and changes your life forever. My life changed forever in 2007 when fate bought a man, who was to become the love of my life, and I together. I was going through a very difficult time. I simply existed in an unhappy marriage, veiling my misery and unhappiness from the world with a smile. Although family and friends believed I had the perfect marriage, it was truly a farce.
This man came along and had a profound effect on me. He saw something in me that others didn’t or couldn’t see. He not only saw it, but he took the time to nurture it and watch it grow.
I am the confident and successful woman I am today because of him, the faith he had in me and the encouragement he gave me. He once said to me:
‘Even a neglected seedling, properly nurtured and cared for, can blossom into a beautiful flower‘.
Eros is, and will always be, the only love of my life. I have never loved like this before, nor do I envisage I ever will again. Losing my beloved Eros was worse than anything I have or will ever again experience in my life. After he severed our relationship, with a SMS I spiralled into the depths of depression.
One way in which I dealt with my loss and the emotional and physical effects on me from my grief was through continuing to write my poetry. This time however I modified my poems to reflect the feelings and emotions I was experiencing during this dark period in my life.
The contents of my trilogy of poetry books; Unconditional Forbidden Love; A Journey of Hurt – Captured in Ink; and this book contain the poems I initially sent to him about my love for him and then; subsequent, poems about the ebb and flow of my feelings as a result of losing him and the grief and mourning I have since endured.
The poems in my books depict my journey of love, loss and sacrifice.
Hereunder are a few examples of the poetry contained within this emotionally intense book of poetry.
Example 1:
My Vow
To my beloved Eros
The following to you I vow
The promises I’ll etch in blood
If this you will allow
I promise to always love you
I promise I’ll love you forever
With a love that’s deep and true
And that I’ll leave you never
I promise you my heart
Carried on a silver tray
From now until eternity
Until my last day
I promise you my soul
For it is nothing without you
Do with it as you wish
It is yours to possess too
I offer you my body
Although it’s done some mileage
It will serve you well; and with it
You have freedom of passage
I promise you my loyalty
I promise to never forsake
No other could be more faithful
And a beautiful life we’ll make
Finally; my home and chattels
Will become your kingdom
Of which you will be King
There to live your life in freedom
Example 2
Two Women’s Hearts; Only One Key
Two women’s hearts
Only one key
You hold the choice
Which will it be?
You married one heart; and
Borrowed the other
One was your wife; and
The other your lover
You had everything; but
You weren’t happy at home
You saw something you wanted
And you decided to roam
You wanted your cake; and
To eat the icing too
You held all the aces
So what did you do?
You held two hearts
In the palm of your hand
When it got too hot
You took off and ran
Now two hearts are hurting
Two hearts now cry
Two hearts are bleeding
And you know why!
Example 3
I Am The Lock; You Are The Key
I am the lock
You are the only key
Until we got together
Neither could be set free
Your key was made precisely
To fit exactly into me
We were made to be together
Why can’t this you see?
How many times?
Do keys they get lost
Most are never found again; or
Have to be duplicated; at cost
You know where your lock is
As to I; my key
Yet for whatever reason
You walked away from me
Some people search a lifetime
To find a match like ours
A love that is so pure and true
That I promise will never sour
I want you to return to me
Your key in your outstretched palm
So that I know that this time
Me you will not again harm
Example 4
Two Women’s Love
Two women’s tears
Two women’s sorrow
But a woman’s heart
A man should never just borrow
Two women cry
A great name for a song
Cry over the same man; and
Two loves that went wrong
Two women love you
Both women care
If you think about this
Is this really fair?
Both women want you
Now they both know
But only upon one should
Your love you bestow
One already has you
The other; wants you so
For a love so deep and true
Will you let the first one go?
You are so very lucky
Two women love you so
But unfortunately for one
One you have to let go
Example 5
Vicki Elizabeth
There was a country beauty
Vicki Elizabeth was her name
After you dumped her
Her poetry shot to fame
Her poems tell of love
A love so pure and true
And of a loss so difficult
It killed all of her hue
She writes down her words
To help ease the pain
Retaining beautiful memories
Of a love you just can’t fain
Whilst he’ll never read them
Many others; they now will
Out there now published
A new chapter they now fill
She dreams of the day however
He comes back to her
And happiness will be reflected
In her poetry then; he’ll concur
Until that day comes
Her life will continue
But it will never be the sam
