A New You
There is some situation in your life you want changed. How do you get from where you are now to where you want to be tomorrow? That is the challenge of personal transformation. You have to break away from your old habits that are producing your present unwanted state.
Check habits in the five main areas of your life that are not producing results you want. The five areas are career and finance, relationships, religious or spiritual, health and exercise, and personal development and recreation.
You may be comfortable with the events taking place in your life. That is why you put up with events that are not producing results you want. Your challenge is to come out of your comfort zone.
You have to do things that are new, unknown, and risky. Personal transformation requires you to have more than mere new insights into old issues. It requires your shift in habits, and awareness of your power to create the life you want.
Generating change
The Power Plant does not have energy, it GENERATES energy. Similarly, persons do not have energy, they generate energy. You therefore need a framework to assist your generation of energy. The Ten Generators outlined in this work set the boundaries for generating your success.
There is nothing new under the sun, and what is necessary to achieve peak performance success results is no exception. In the history of the Planet, there have been thousands of highly successful people, and they have marked out for posterity the success road they travelled.
What is different in the 21st Century is that social
conditions and technology have significantly changed, as well as perspectives on knowledge through directed research and experimentation. This means that the increased distractions and challenges of the 21st Century demand more massive action, more consistency and more relevant action on what you know to be important for your success.
There are many different success platforms. What is offered in this book is only one of such frameworks. However, the evidence suggests that this framework has in fact facilitated
generating positive results in highly effective people. The qualitative research I have done on international high performance achievers, in diverse fields, have identified these 10 success generators as being present among other core values that each high performance achiever espouses. Nonetheless, it is certainly not the only roadmap that is available to achieve peak or high performance results.
Moreover, a number of researchers have identified and published books about these 10 Success Generators as critical for high performance results. Among these researchers are international thought leaders such as Jack Cranfield, Napoleon Hill, Bob Proctor, Brendon Burchard, John Maxwell, Stephen R. Covey, Wayne Dyer and Brian Tracy.
My life has been fruitful, eventful, happy, and successful in my own terms. I can safely say that my own success and my contribution to society and to the success of others were underpinned by the “10 Proven 21st Century Success Generators.”
I was Chairman of a commercial bank, an international airline, and a national petroleum company where I moved the company from its initial share of 17% of the domestic market to 100%. For 17 years I was a Director of Neal & Massy Holdings Limited, (now re-branded Massy Group) one of the largest conglomerates in the Caribbean.
At 37 years I was appointed the Chief Executive of the National Commercial Bank of Trinidad and Tobago Limited, and on my retirement in 1963 had increased its assets from TT$13million to TT$2billion, the branches from I to 18, its staff from 35 to 1800, and its University trained and professional staff from 1 to 80. I have successfully coached hundreds of persons, including chief executives, senior management, business owners and young professionals.
In the 1975 Trinidad and Tobago’s National Awards, I was awarded the Humming Bird Medal (Gold) in the sphere of economics.
The Generators
Ten elements have been identified as being 21st Century
Success Generators. They are:
• Desire • Health • Belief • Action • Standards • Habits
• Contribution • Knowledge • Creativity • Intentionality
These 10 success generators have been identified separately for the convenience of analysis and explanation, but they are inextricably connected and not in watertight compartments. Therefore, certain aspects overlap and the same idea may appear in more than one chapter. It is not repetition but establishes the deep interconnection.
For example, in the chapter on Desire mention is made that you must clothe it with Belief; the chapter on Action includes the part Habits play in your actions. Also, money is needed, either directly or indirectly, for action to be effected; and money plays an important part when you are making contributions for yourself or for others. Desire, Belief, Action, Habits and Contribution are 5 different success generators. This is referred to in some esoteric teachings as “interbeing”, and as the Buddhist would declare, all phenomena are interdependent.
The underlying concepts of the Generators are:
• You are the master of your destiny.
• Your health is your true wealth.
• Without belief in yourself and your
mission nothing significant can be achieved.
• Action is the kinetic force for results.
• Personal standards circumscribe the limits
of your achievements.
• Habits must be consciously observed
to eliminate those that do not serve your
best interests.
• Knowledge is the fulcrum on which your
progress in life depends.
• Making things simpler and better are within
your creative remit.
• Put your attention on your intention and you
will soar like an eagle.
Act with purpose. You have your own unique skill and talents. Be the contribution that makes your legacy as significant as it can be.
For the convenience of readers I have summarized in separate chapters (Chapters 11, 12, & 13 respectively):
{1] concepts underlying each of the 10 Success Generators
{2} main points in each of the 10 Success Generators
{3] routines to improve or deepen each of the 10 Success
Generators
