It was a typical quiet Saturday morning on the Nort riverbank. The river flowed low and slow. It meandered eastbound throughout the quaint and artistic Nort village and into the Nort estuary. Just a few yards away from her backyard, Amy, being an early riser, sang with the birds on the riverbank. That morning was a particularly special morning for Amy. She skipped along the riverbank and sang to the melody of the birdsongs I am eight years old today. I’m having a party with my friends and we’ll eat chocolate cake. Chocolate cake is my favour… She stopped dead in her tracks. Her mouth dropped wide open, but no sound came out. Even the birds stopped singing. She took a deep breath and released the loudest screeching scream. The entire village woke to a shriek crackling through the air. The Lins jumped out of their bed. Their daughter’s voice could not be mistaken for any other little girl in Nort. At the speed of light, Tom ran to the river. He searched frantically, calling out for his daughter. After she checked on the twin boys playing video games in their room, Joyce was right behind her husband. On the riverbank, Tom found Amy under the largest weeping willow, screaming. “Daddy’s here sweetheart.” He took Amy into his arms and rushed away from the corpse.
