Time To Live!

Did You See? (30/03/2016) I was abused, did you see it? No I don’t suppose you did. It’s not your fault, you were busy with your life, your family, your friends. But did you ever suspect? Maybe, but who has the time to workout someone else’s life when their own is so hectic? Hey I get it, I really do. That was me. Life happens and days fly past so fast by the time we stop it has been months since we last contacted a friend. Or maybe you did see, but didn’t want to. Sure it is easy to pretend or push it away saying someone else will help. There is always the fall back line of everyone has issues with relationships. And at the end of the day, whether you saw it or not it isn’t your problem, society has defined our primary function to protect ourselves, don’t get involved. Of course, you are right, there may be nothing there, someone else might help, it couldn't be that bad or you would have heard about it - right? The truth is NO. You wouldn;t have heard about it. Would you run around advertising that your choice was wrong? I don't know many who would. Would you willingly pour your heart’s deepest fears out to someone who could hurt you even more? It doesn't seem likely. So is it really that bad - YES!. The pain of loving someone while allowing them to hurt you is really that bad. Could you see the pain even if you had looked? Maybe you need to look again. Was that a panicked expression washing over her features as she checked her watch for the tenth time? Does she stand off from the group or maybe immerse herself so deeply that no-one has a chance to look closely? In that split second did her guard drop and the fear, pain and exhaustion of walking on eggshells every night reveal itself? You probably didn't see it and if you did it would have been but a fleeting glance. You couldn't know the feeling in the pit of her stomach as the clock ticked towards the end of the work day, the sickness of mind at the thought of being touched, the sadness of knowing her children would need to be in bed to avoid being in the way. Could you see any of this? No, I suppose not. It’s not your fault, but it isn’t hers either. While she sits trapped inside her own mind the world around passes her by. The fragility of that mind will not venture outside but will wait in the hope that maybe someone, just one person may look twice and offer a hand to help her step outside. That someone will no longer pass by. That someone will ask the question she still cannot answer honestly but needs to be asked anyway - are you OK? Yes it is easy to look away and be too busy to see but the alternative could be watching my children burying ME!
