Understanding Your Soul
Like fingerprints, no two souls are exactly alike. It is a part of self that is attached at birth and remains with us until our last breath. Invisible to the human eye, the soul works within to guide our earth journey and teach us the lesson we came to learn.
The soul is the part of a person that is not physical and lasts eternally after the body experiences death. It is the deepest part of our self that holds all memory of our existences. I believe the frequency of our soul resides in the shadow of our life and is a communicative tool to be used by our creator, angels and guides to help us on our journey. Our soul knows our purpose and on a subconscious level guides us to achieve it.
Sometimes a dramatic set of circumstances slams us down to our knees. We cry out, “God, why is this happening?” It is when you reach this bottomless pit of emotion that the soul is exposed. Here it can be re-built, schooled or grow, if surrounded with forgiveness, faith and hope. It is here, where we choose whether or not to go on living. Our soul is the depth of your spiritual being. An unseen part of self that is sacred, private and personal. It makes up the light within you and combined with your spirit, is the essence of you.
It is said that the soul is a person’s moral or emotional sense of identity. We can discover this essence of our being through a path of spirituality. When we pray, meditate or contemplate life we develop a connectedness to the outer world. The human community seeks a comprehensive tie to nature, the cosmos and the divine realm. These spiritual images, can offer a source of comfort, greater understanding and meaning to our lives.
Spirituality is often described as an experience or source of inspiration. It includes a transcendent nature of the world. When you walk a spiritual path, it is said you are mindful, kind and practice a consciousness, of all things. Spirituality is not a religion but rather a way for individuals to experience an inner fulfillment of faith and to realize how one can live in harmony with the universe.
Being spiritual denotes various attempts to recognize aspects of life and our human experience that are not captured by a purely materialistic view. It can bring a deeper meaning to your life’s purpose and emotions.
An example of this life style is when a person’s chooses to develop a connection to some force/power/energy or spirit, outside their self. Though this connection, they can develop a higher state of awareness and receive higher guidance or communication with God or with creation. Plato’s Allegory of the Cave, which appears in Book VII of The Republic, is a description of such a journey as are the writing of Teresa of Avila.
A spiritual path may be taken for a short duration or last a lifetime. Many times, a teacher or spiritual guru may offer guidance on this journey. Also, sacred texts can be studied to learn disciplines or practices to attain a deeper spiritual state. Spirituality is often described as a process in two phases: the first on inner growth, and the second on the manifestation of this in relation to the outside world. Unlike religion, spirituality is not a formal external search, but rather a search, within one’s self.
An experience of spirituality can be described as having human emotions of wonder, awe and reverence. Usually, this takes place when observing nature or achieving a deep connectedness with the universe. Our life experiences, choices and actions can impact our physical, emotional and spiritual balance. Through a practice of spirituality you can regain a sense of self and balance.
When we focus within, there is a greater opportunity to receive higher guidance to assist us with confusion, grief and life’s overwhelming challenges. Walking the spiritual path opens our hearts and minds, to the common good of all.
I believe there is a relationship between the spirit and quantum mysticism. It comes in the form of personal intuition, physic phenomenon, and the supernatural. This includes things we know but cannot see. Many people have the ability to tap into this unseen energy. If you choose this path in life, it usually offers a sense of inner peace; a pathway to enlightenment,
Sometimes spiritual seekers, decide to do a vision quest in an effort to get in touch with their soul, spirit and self. This is usually done on sacred ground and with a supervisory spiritual leader. Years ago, I did a vision quest with a Psychologist, who did sweat lodges on her property. You can read about my vision quest in Part Three Outside the Box.
Your soul and spirit are connected to the identity of self; at the completion of the human life cycle, they transcend to the origin of creation.
