It was past midnight when I realized something odd was going on. It took a few moments before I realized the burning sensation in my palms wasn’t a dream. As I lay flat on my back, arms by my side, the burning intensified. The heat radiated out of the middle of my palms. I now knew this was real and not a dream.
Both palms felt ablaze with red hot heat, yet I had no sense of pain. The radiating heat kept flowing intensely. I was stunned by what was happening, having never experienced anything like this. I was transfixed and pinned to the bed by the energy surge.
‘What’s happening to my hands?’ I thought. It was all very confusing, yet I knew that I was awake and fully conscious. As I lay there, wondering whether I would have burn marks or even blisters, I was curious as to what would unfold next. I kept my eyes closed, perhaps out of fear.
The night was eerily still—too still. Suddenly a woman appeared, with bright green-blue eyes, and familiar white hair. She looked at me deeply—her face close to mine. She uttered “You are now ready”.

Like many scientists, Patrick Deprez put his work ahead of his own health. The demands of his work as an analytical chemist consumed his life, and he drifted into a vortex of anxiety and depression. About the Author
Patrick Deprez was born in Belgium in 1956. He spent his early years in Central Africa before immigrating to Australia. He is a scientist and a pilot who has worked in Antarctica, and he has been a healer since 1998. His passions include surfing. Patrick is married and has two children.
