About the Book

This story is about a female wallaroo and her joey who faced much pain and life threatening issues due to human lack of care and appreciation for our famous icon. Those of us who care for these wonderful animals we do all we can to help them survive. Sara and Jacob are such survivors, who have healed and have remained on the property. Jacob now nine years old is huge, buff, bad boy with many joeys and ladies in his harem. Sarah still has a slight limp but it doesn’t stop her leading a full and productive life. I hope this story helps the young readers and their parents understand what happens when we carers look after our joeys. We have to look after our wildlife, the environment and their habitats, but most of all we need support for our carers to do this vital work.

About the Author

As a wildlife carer for eleven years in the New England area of New South Wales, we see tragic deaths of our kangaroos by vehicle hits, shootings, drought, floods, fires, sickness and so much more. Many incidents leaving young/juveniles at high risk. I decided to retire as a community nurse, but then wondered what to do next, that’s when I came across my first joey, Matilda. Since then I have used my skills to care for Macropods (kangaroos) who have come into care for some perilous mishap or another. To be honest, I love it, it’s hard, time consuming and most times emotionally and financially draining, it will pull you down but when you have a joey that thrives and grows to adulthood, have their babies and grow their lives, it’s so rewarding and uplifting. It’s a challenge but we carers of wildlife know their importance and happily do our duty.
