1. Self:
Getting more grounded in the concept of self and why this is an important state to be in is crucial to you finding a more self-supporting way forward in your life, building a deeper state of wellbeing and living a more present, awakened and empowered life.
We can all struggle with internal battles around making time for ourselves or giving our time and energy to external things, working to meet other people’s needs, focusing more on our to do list rather than fully allowing ourselves to just be, to let our thoughts and feelings come to the surface so that we can actively deal with these.
So if there was a good place to start it would be this. Give yourself permission to allot some time every day to creating “You” time. I would say start with 15 mins a day to meditate and then journal your thoughts. Find the best time in your day to do this. Let that be your starting point. Keep it simple and state this commitment to yourself.
“I commit to giving myself 15 minutes a day to nurture my own wellbeing journey and my more awakened life”.
Focusing on yourself has a few aspects that need consideration, and they include the following. Think for a moment about how much love you offer yourself each day. Self-love: includes how fully we can accept ourselves, including valuing our strengths, weaknesses, and imperfections, without judgment or self-criticism. It is intentionally getting comfortable with embracing all aspects of yourself, both positive and negative.
The next aspects of being able to focus on yourself is how much compassion you offer yourself each day. Self-Compassion: is about showing kindness, understanding, and forgiveness to yourself daily particularly when dealing with hardship or challenging times in your life. This includes giving yourself permission to make mistakes and treating yourself with the same compassion, support, and empathy that you would more easily offer to the people around you.
Building on this self-compassion there is then also the connection to how much Self-Respect you offer to yourself. You do that through being more mindful of your behaviours and actions towards yourself daily. So, ponder for a moment on how much self-respect you offer yourself, how do you cultivate positive and affirming self-talk. Can you challenge your negative self-beliefs and work to replace them with more empowering and compassionate thoughts. Be present with your behaviours and actions, ask yourself how you can actively treat yourself with more respect, encourage yourself with uplifting and supportive internal dialogue.
The key to this process and building a more empowered and awakened life is that it needs to be fully Self-Led. Get to know your why, fully commit and find ways to hold yourself accountable on a daily and weekly basis. Be proactive about supporting yourself more positively and proactively. Being self-led involves fully engaging in continuous self-love, active self-improvement and intentional personal growth. This can include setting and working towards meaningful goals, exploring, and learning new skills, and embracing opportunities for personal development and self-discovery.
The key here is that you are in this process for yourself, purely for your own benefit, and give yourself full permission to embrace this process daily. Through the following pages are several different journaling prompts that look at helping you build a deeper awareness and understanding of yourself.
So, pause and consider each of these journaling prompts. Go one prompt at a time, choose one that you feel curious about and begin to journal around that prompt. There is no specific order to the prompts. So if you feel like flicking through the prompts and finding one that you would like to start with then please do. Then once I have completed the journaling prompts and towards the end of the section pause and reflect. Then identify a goal or focus for yourself over the coming weeks that is going to nurture your own state of being fully and confidently self-led.
