Thoughts of Tokyo Why does everything have to be so hard? You'd think when you make any life decisions that would be the final step wouldn't you? Oh no. I believe "With God all things are possible" like it says in Matthew 19:26 in the Bible (NKJV), but God also says that you have to trust me and I'll show you the way. Oh trust? Uh oh that means more faith (believing without seeing it happen) and not just a simple path. Sometime in early 2016 our daughter Amy and her husband Dillon began the process of applying for him to be transferred by his company, Ernst and Young (EY) for an international assignment to Tokyo Japan. Since Dillon had become a partner for Ernst and Young several years earlier, he was eligible to apply. Amy had talked with us about being interested in an international tour that might happen when Zach and Matthew, their sons (and our grandsons) would be in middle school. An international tour usually lasts for three years, so it follows that their family could be back in the U.S. by the time Zach and Matthew would be in high school(@2020.

About the Book
When Jennifried McNeal semi-retired, she looked forward to spending more time with her grown children and their families. Instead, it appeared as if she would see them less. In Amy’s Real Life, she shares the story of her daughter, Amy; Amy’s husband, Dillon; and the couple’s two middle-school-aged sons as they faced the joys and challenges of a three year, overseas assignment in Japan. Culled from the journal McNeal kept before and during the move and throughout their international stay, she narrates the sometimes funny and sometimes emotional adventures as they learned about the culture, language, and even transportation. This story includes many of the family’s life experiences in the United States as well as of the Japanese people who treated them with generosity and kindness. Offering insights into one family’s life adapting to a new country during a worldwide pandemic, Amy’s Real Life tells how God’s hand guided them throughout.
About the Author
Jennifried McNeal is an author, wife, mother, and grandmother. She retired from full-time hospital laboratory work in 2018 before the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. She and her husband, Jay, enjoy taking walks every day, reading, and traveling. They celebrate their fiftieth wedding anniversary in 2022. This is McNeal’s second book.
