In the early morning hours of September 9, 2001, I woke from a terrible nightmare that I didn’t understand.
In my dream, I’d seen two unfamiliar towers bisected by two airplanes. It was a terrifying image for which I had no rational explanation, and it rocked my balance and focus.
At the time, I was busy opening my new yoga center in Medford, New Jersey, totally preoccupied with building permits and real estate transactions. After nine long and frustrating months, I’d started trying to psychically pick up on the dates when all of these transactions would settle. I was already interested in the universal telepathic component of the human emotional bandwidth—and if I could get some answers about my own project, so much the better. I also knew that dreams are often messages from Spirit. However, the chance that I might have a nightmare of epic proportions had never entered my consciousness.
I shared the strange dream with a few people, trying to understand what it might mean, but everyone was as confused as I was. Then, on September 11, we all received the wake-up call of a lifetime. We woke to a new worldview of terrorism and destruction—but also to our country’s patriotism, unity, and heroism in the face of tragic loss.
And in the midst of it all, I was catapulted into a greater understanding of my personal purpose on this planet.
Living in New Jersey, so close to Ground Zero, our community felt the full impact of this unprecedented sequence of events. We knew that many beautiful souls had sacrificed their earthly existence to bring more love and light to this planet, so we set about creating a labyrinth of light in their honor. Within two days, the Yoga Center became a safe haven for all those seeking solace and a quiet place to pray as they searched for answers to this unspeakable tragedy. We held prayer and meditation sessions, community gatherings, and healing workshops.
My own jolt into psychic awareness frightened me greatly. For nearly two years after my dream, I drew my psychic senses inward and went into a sort of energetic hibernation. But gradually, as our Center grew and the initial shock of 9/11 dissipated, I began to soften back into the connection which had always served me so well. I asked Spirit how I could use this connection to serve my friends and family, visitors to the center, and those who had departed this earthly life.
It was at this point that my gift of psychic mediumship fully revealed itself. By tapping into the vast reservoir of energy that is Spirit, I can reunite people with loved ones who have crossed to the other side, and communicate messages from those who no longer have earthly voices with which to speak.
My personal style of channeling offers news you can use today—but the practice of conversing with spirits isn’t a new reality show: in fact, it’s as old as the human race. Our ancestors had a much deeper and more defined connection to the spirit realms than most of us enjoy today. All cultures have historically prayed to “sources” greater than themselves: gurus, saints, gods, avatars, or ancestors. Sometimes, this communication could take the form of a nearly continuous dialogue. Sometimes, it showed up as channeled writings—like the Bible, or the Upanishads. And sometimes, it came as a brief glimpse into a world beyond what the five senses can perceive; a momentary glimpse of a spirit, or a whisper on the wind. However messages from Spirit show up in our lives, their underlying universal messages of peace have the power to speak to all of us.
There is a profound richness of guidance and support around each and every one of us; it begs us to open our hearts to all living energies. “In-spirit-ation” abounds! The departed speak through me, but their messages aren’t filled with fear. In fact, these spirits speak of how we might live more lovingly and compassionately, without fear, loss, or sorrow.
I am a yoga and meditation teacher, but you don’t have to practice yoga to benefit from the teachings in this book. The yogic path can be rich in joy and health, but being able to stand on your head or twist yourself into a pretzel isn’t a prerequisite for expanding your consciousness into the realm of Spirit. All you need is curiosity and an open mind. On this planet, we are all students seeking knowledge, balance, and connection with the universal consciousness, but the paths we walk in pursuit of that knowledge are as individual as we are. It is my intention that the words on these pages grant you insight, and empower your personal journey.
