First pages in the book, first chapter
For me awareness is the foundation of one’s path. When you embrace the energy of awareness you are opening the doors of your consciousness and can start to connect deeper into yourself. My aim is to present various questions and prompts that will open up your awareness and expand your senses. It will also make you curious about your journey and send you off on your own path of consciousness through the use of this book.
Throughout the book take note that certain energies, healers, and spiritual forms may be expressed and referenced as a traditional masculine ‘he’ or feminine ‘she’ just to help me explain terms and experiences more easily. I believe they are interchangeable and not always in a certain form.
Let’s begin by focusing on a few personal experiences and phrases that are often used in the spiritual experience that you might not be familiar with. I will also help guide you to your personal practice of presence with useful prompts that have worked for many people including myself. Some of these tools include witnessing thoughts, feeling the flow of creative energy, attracting what you want, creating space for light, and even using prayer. Come join me on a peaceful yet invigorating journey to self, where you will gain a lively and positive perspective that you didn’t know existed in this great big spiritual world.
GUIDES
What better topic to talk about than the topic about guides. So what is a guide? Where will I find my guide? How do I work with them?
A guide in this context can be described as a feeling of a presence. This presence will sometimes take an etheric form. An etheric energy field can be perceived as a picture of a certain gender, age, or even adorned with clothes. If you attend a healing workshop or any other workshop where you are working with expanding your awareness, you will most certainly come across the language around what guides are and what they can do.
My view of guides has changed over the years. Since childhood a strong connection I have always felt was to the “One” source. He is how I would have wanted a grandfather to be. He is my family and I have acted out with Him as if He is of flesh and blood since childhood (mild tantrums here and there). Let me explain a little further. Once while living in my home in Peru, a friend of mine came by for tea and when I opened the door to welcome her, she immediately asked “Wow, ...who pissed you off?” I quickly pointed up towards the sky. She looked at me with a curious look on her face. A few seconds later when she realized what I meant she cracked up completely laughing at me. She knew I had a moment of resistance with my “One” source and was acting out my emotions towards Him. She said that I looked and behaved as if I were a five year old in that moment. She wondered how long I would behave like that. I assertively replied “Until I am not pissed off anymore and my Grandfather and I have come to an understanding.” Obviously, I should know how to control my resistance at my age, but He is family and sometimes we get really upset with the closest ones to us. I use this story to help you understand my awareness and ability to connect with my etheric guides. Sometimes I can take on a positiveness from the experience but sometimes rebellion because of my human nature.
PERSONAL CONNECTIONS WITH GUIDES
Having a strong connection with an etheric family around me from a young age, a true source of where my full trust is anchored, I became curious of all the other presences I sensed around me. Were they also guides? For me it is easy to channel the voices in my head as they materialize themselves in bodily forms. One called himself Erik and he was an old ordinary man that gave me guidance on how to interact with male authorities. Was he possibly a guide or was he an old part of me that popped up and wanted to be released? Or maybe he was residue of old vibrations I held within. I never cancel out any of these options.
In my meditations I seem to walk on a staircase with little alcoves, where my guides sit and give me advice, reassurance, and support when needed. This experience could last for the week, day, month or longer. Not until the guides are done teaching me, do I stop having access to the alcove in my meditations. Guides are very frank at times, just a wave of their hand and a simple “move along we are done” can end a session with a guide--direct connection and to the point. I don’t think much about it. I take the advice and move on.
When I discovered Reiki for the first time I certainly had a connection with the explosive power connected to the practice. They, the Reiki guides, were impressive and very helpful. I clearly felt they were not part of “my family” the way Erik was, nor as dismissive when finished guiding me. They fit more into the traditional description of guides that I read about over the years. I made an effort to go outside of my “family comfort zone” and search for connections to awareness and presence as they understood it. With Reiki guides, I absolutely felt a presence outside of myself. Were the guides what other spiritual people around me talked about? I finally tapped into a spiritual faucet that aligned with my own practices of spirituality.
I think for me a guide is a presence that needs to feel like family or has a specific task or connection as the Reiki guides have shown me. However, I must admit I was a little tense around new spiritual presences, especially ones I am not familiar with. I walked away with the knowledge that there is a distinct difference between a guide and a natural spirit. The guide would be the voice or source of spirit. But then I had to wonder, if I feel comfortable with a direct connection to “spirit”, do I need guides?
I feel it is important for me to know and understand who and what the guide can support me with. Also, I want to learn and pay my respect towards all the energies that support me. So we can bond and create magical miracles together.
Speaking of many different energies, when I work with clients, sometimes they have an “entourage” of spirits with them whether they are aware of it or not. Unfortunately, there is little space for me to do my work when this happens, although I do not mind this at all. I always ask them, who and why they are there. Sometimes it’s a dead relative, someone’s curious grandmother, or sometimes it’s a spirit wanting me to tell my client to let them go for their task on earth is done. Sometimes there may be a presence of old vibrations of a person that wants to be embodied. Each of my sessions varies every time. There is however always a common thread. A part of their source or, a Higher Self, can become their guide, if, for instance, feeling stuck in the density surrounding the body. All sorts of issues can be supported by your guide.
HIGHER SELF
One’s Higher Self is an expression that is widely used in circles of people that are into exploration. It is a term that refers to a part of us that is in contact with our divinity. Some people choose to call their Higher Self, their guide.
I remember an experience which started with a meditation that was supposed to connect us to our Higher Selves. Our what? I thought to myself for a moment feeling a little shy but asked the teacher, “Where should I look for the Higher part of myself?” I received a look of sympathy as she answered, “You will find it when the times comes.” Needless to say I felt very embarrassed and uncomfortable with this experience. Today I call my rebellious Higher Self the better part of me, meaning She knows She is curious by nature to ask questions and won’t try to please me to make me happy like in the above situation.
So how do you know that you are in contact with your Higher Self or someone else’s Higher aspect of themselves?
