About the Author

DR. DEE TAKEMOTO is a Professor of biochemistry at Kansas State University, in Manhattan, KS, for thirty-two years. She teaches to nonscience majors, especially to emphasize the knowledge of health issues. She has recently co-authored a textbook and lab manual, Molecules and Society, which is now in a beta edition to students (published by Kendall Hunt). Dr. Takemoto has had a long-standing interest in diets and health and has been quoted, internationally, on the BBC for her work with anti-oxidants in wheat. She has published more than one hundred scientifi c papers and holds research grants from the National Eye Institute of the National Institutes of Health. The current book grew from her lectures to students who had a desire to be healthy and lose weight. Dr. Takemoto resides in Manhattan, Kansas, during the school year, and, in her home in Aptos, California when school is not in session.

JOANNE MCINTYRE is a practicing echocardiographer in a pediatric cardiology practice in Arcadia, California. She has a lifetime interest in health and diet issues. Throughout her career, she has observed children who struggled with weight and health issues. She is an artist and writer, and resides in Sierra Madre, California. Joanne and Dee are sisters.
