Laughing Mirrors In the stillness of the lake, I saw my soul. From the thunderous rapids, it called out to me. In the mirror of my brother I explored the caverns of my being. In my sister’s eyes I began to understand what I was seeing. The moon’s waxings and wanings resonated in my heart, like the dulcet tones of a spring breeze through a meadow. Climbing into the mountains the lightness of ephemeral chaos blended into nothingness; a nothingness in which the inner and outer landscapes of my being revealed themselves as one. The dark and the light, the love and the fear, erupted through the vent of Mystery, and in that emptiness I learned to laugh like the Buddha.

After serving 35 years as an educator in the New York City Public School System, Laurie Nearon, a student and teacher of life, dedicates her time to inspiring others to more fully awaken to their own inner wisdom through poetry workshops and consciousness studies gatherings. She is a martial artist and an avid outdoor enthusiast who loves camping, hiking, kayaking, whitewater rafting and nature photography.
