About the Book
The new kid was ugly. Shay was going to make sure she told him so before he tried to tease her about her size. Shay is a bully. She knows it. But it’s better than getting picked on and having your feelings hurt. Then she meets the new kid. He wants to play with dolls and practice what he might say in certain situations. This story reminds us of the importance of our words and choosing carefully what we want to say instead of falling into old patterns. It cautions us that adapting a personality will never serve us. We need to embrace who we are and forget the judgment we fear from others.
About the Author
LaurieLee is a mother of two boys and a retired primary teacher of 30+ years. She believes the best conversations in her classroom happened at the snack table and during dramatic play, and that we need to be making time for more listening, hearing, and sharing with children. She loves to read, write, and tell stories. She enjoys making and growing things, nature, animals, and all things water and sunshine. Her favourite thing to do is laugh. She currently lives in St Agatha On. The New Kid at School is a book in LaurieLee’s series called Reach for Good Thoughts. Her hope is that these books will inspire kids and adults (and Barbies) to read together and that they will spark conversation, especially about what the stories bring up for the reader personally. Her books are written for kids-of all ages.
