Chapter 5, The Funeral extract, first paragraph: "With the feeling of trepidation, I entered the large wooden doors that opened to the viewing room of the funeral home. Together with my family, I walked silently towards the coffin that stood ahead of us with its top section open in readiness for the viewing. As I approached the coffin, I stared at my mother’s body as it lay there in its lifeless state and my heart cracked open and all my repressed emotions were released. This was not the first time I had attended a viewing of a deceased loved one, yet this was by far the most horrific experience and the most memorable. We stood embraced by my mother’s coffin and as a family we shed our tears for the loss of this wonderful woman, our lives forever changed."

About the Book
Nelia is a first time author and shares her story of pain and grief after suffering the loss of her mother to terminal cancer. This journey begins with Nelia’s breakdown at the moment of the last good-bye with her mother in the Palliative Care ward, only to realise she had to return to life which selfishly continued in spite of her sorrow. In the process of grief, Nelia found herself questioning the meaning and purpose of her life. She found that within the darkness of her breakdowns, the path to the light of healing, and subsequent breakthroughs, led her to a personal spiritual awakening. In sharing her journey, Nelia hopes that her story which led to the path to spiritual awakening can provide some assistance to those who are, and may still be suffering from the pain of grief and loss. Through writing of her book Nelia, has created an Instagram page, carnelian_heart, where she shares with the readers aspects of her journey that assisted in pushing through some of her most challenging moments after the death of her mother.
