About the Author
JoAnna Mendoza is a retired US Marine, who has deployed all over the world, to include multiple combat tours to Iraq and Afghanistan. She has served as a Drill Instructor, Drill Instructor-Instructor, and as a Sergeant Instructor. JoAnna holds a BA in Intelligence Studies, and a Certification in Strength and Conditioning Training. Additionally, she has attended various military schools, such as: Combat Life Saver, Marine Corps Martial Arts Black Belt, Formal Instructor, Curriculum Developer, Substance Abuse Control Officer, Suicide Prevention Officer, Uniformed Victim Advocate, Marine Corps Special Operations Training Course, and various leadership academies. As a Drill Instructor she changed lives. As an instructor at Drill Instructor School, one of the most esteemed schools, in the Marine Corps, she impacted the future of the Marine Corps, by directly influencing how Marine Drill Instructors transformed selected men and women into Marines. Her passion and can-do-attitude are a result of overcoming challenges in her personal and professional life. As a self-proclaimed advocate for underrepresented populations, she consistently strives to bring awareness to issues within our society. Whether, it’s through, sharing personal experiences, direct connections, social networking sites, or through writing, she is committed to providing insight, information and resources to help those in need. She believes that each one of us is on a mission to find a unique gift to share with the world that will make it a better place. No gift is too big, or too small. JoAnna continues to inspire people wherever she goes. After the Marine Corps, it was important for her to secure a position that would allow her to make a difference. Currently, she works for an agency that allows her to assist others provide safe and loving homes for children and adults with special needs. JoAnna is a single mother and her son, Aidan, is her pride and joy. They currently live in the beautiful Arizona desert.
