Crossing My Rainbow Bridge

On March 6 I receive a training report from Megan at Canine Companions for Independence. Serna is showing the same pattern when first working with Todd which is stress. Megan says she is in a regression period yet they do feel she will work out. Serna is receiving lots and lots of praise. She does not require any corrections at this point but nudging to be responsive. They plan to place her on the floor for the upcoming May class. A phone call to Leta will be good for Serna and we get a session set up right away.
I convey to Leta that Serna just needs to believe in herself again. “She would have been released from training if they did not have hopes for her success. We need to encourage her to work on her bond with Megan.”
Leta tunes into my Bobby precious angel puppy asking, “Do you sense that Megan believes in you?”
“Sometimes, yes.”
“Megan told Carol Ann that she believes you can succeed. What are you feeling now Serna?”
“I am sad and torn. I still want to go back to Carol Ann. I do feel I could do this but it might only be halfway and my heart might not ever be in it. I don’t know if I can get close again, I am not stoic like Maggie.”
“We do understand. Carol Ann feels the same way, she is aware of how you feel. She shares that both of you just now need to do your best and let things play out. Trust that it will lead to the right outcome.”
Serna shows Leta she is really torn in trying to do right. She would like to just opt out and knows she can control that to some extent. “I am still holding on because Carol Ann tells me to do so.”
“Carol Ann is in heartache for you and hopes you can feel some relief from her love sent your way. She cuddles the soft snuggley lab she walked across the stage with at turn in since you were in heat. She envisions you while doing this.”
“Yes, I feel it. I am so connected to her which is why it is hard for me to let go.”
“You do not have to think of it as letting go; Carol Ann will always be with you in spirit no matter what. Think of Maggie.”
“Yes, but think of how she feels without her Robert present. It is different and that is the part I am talking about.”
“She knows this and feels the same way. We must keep going; it is all we can do. Be patient and trust. You are the puppy who taught her trust.”
I am grateful for our session through Leta. If my Bobby girl can just keep hanging on I know she will make it. I hug the big lab cuddley envisioning her with me.
On May 3 I receive the awaited news about Serna from Canine Companions for Independence. She has been matched as a skilled companion with an eleven year old wheelchair bound girl named Ariana. There is no other information provided as yet. Whoopies. I always envisioned this happening and call everyone to share the fabulous news. I want to check in with Serna for a bit and call Leta for a quick session.
Serna bounces in exuberantly when hearing Leta communicating with her. “I think I am doing it.”
“Yes, indeed you are. Carol Ann and everyone are so very happy. Do you like the person you are matched with?”
“I love her and the family. I feel a lot of good energy in them, there is no depression.”
“Is she who you wanted?”
“Absolutely. There were others, but she is perfect for me.”
“Do you get to sleep with Ariana on her bed?”
“Yes, sometimes. I want to do that all the time. Already I am feeling possessive with her.”
“Do you see yourself now as an important spoke on the wheel which stems out from Carol Ann and the pack?”
“Yes, I am very happy. I feel like I am a very strong spoke.” She shows herself on a wheel with Maggie at nine, Terrace at five and herself about two. Carol Ann and her canine family make up the middle all synthesized together.
“That is a lovely vision. Thank you. In a few days Carol Ann and Treya will be seeing you and Linda is also coming. You will get to play with Treya. Carol Ann wants to share that it is going to be hard for her to walk away from you. If you can remember the process at Maggie’s graduation this might help you.”
“It will be very hard for me also but I understand. I hope she will remain in my life and we can see each other.”
Serna shares she has already seen the pictures of her home in the heads of her family so this is helping. She can feel how proud they are of her already. She also reminds Carol Ann that she will be reflecting her feelings and hopes both of them can be stronger than when she was left at school. She does not want to relive that pain.
“Carol Ann does not want that either. This will be a more joyful reunion and the parting tough but without such turmoil on both of your parts. She is so happy you have endured for so long and hung in there. You have done a great job. In her eyes you are the number one graduate girl.”
“She will continue to light your candle and write to you. Her focus will turn more to working with Treya in her last months of training with her.”
“Yes, that is how it is supposed to be. I can’t wait to see her.”
