It was a seemingly ordinary day on Hank and June Dooley’s farm. On this day something new was happening in the mind of one of their animals that would really change the farm.
Little did they know that they had a most extraordinary chicken in their chicken yard. Her name was Harriet. And Harriet dreamed of colors every day.
She loved colors—the bright spring green of the grass, the blue of the sky, the yellow of the daffodils, the brilliant red of the tulips. When there was a rainbow, Harriet forgot about eating and everything else to marvel at the beautiful colors.

About the Book
This is a story about Harriet, a most unusual chicken. Harriet has an imagination, and she is inspired to use her imagination to create the image of herself she longs for. Harriet wants to be colorful, so she starts envisioning all the colors she loves. As she starts to change, all the other animals on the farm discover that they have dreamed of being different than they are. After talking with Harriet, they all start using their imaginations to become what they want for themselves. As the animals on the farm start to change, Hank and June, the owners of the farm, start to change as well. Soon their farm becomes the most extraordinary farm.
About the Author
Connie Janney has always been involved with creating and has used many different media, including painting in acrylic and sculpture, jewelry design, drawing with markers and pens, and much more. Children’s books have always been one of her favorite things, and she has always wanted to write one. This story came from her drawing of Harriet, which was first called “The Fashionable Hen.” She then drew the cows, pigs, and sheep, and the story unfolded.
