Sweet Slumber, Sweet Dreams
For My Grandmother
Enfolded in arms so securely
Held to a chest so vast.
Hearts beating softly,
Their breathing
Coming together in rhythm.
Murmurs of comfort
And bits of song
Drift over all.
I watch as she holds and rocks
My infant child to sleep this way
And a part of me remembers
When I was the one she held
With such care and love.
Sweet slumber,
Sweet dreams my dear.
And also:
Black Birds
An excited “wow” escapes my lips
Then a smile, a laugh
The field’s covered, almost totally black
With fluttering blackbirds everywhere
In a dance across my field
Where have they come from?
Where are they going?
Oh, to fly away with them
What would they tell me?
What would they show me?
Where would we go?
What would I feel being with them?
Right now I feel I am with them
And dream I lift and soar
With them above the trees!

About the Book
A love of the beauty and restorative power of nature was always a faithful constant in an occasionally turbulent life. Through poetry and prose, Ms. Love now shares her reflections and expresses her gratitude for where life has brought her. Along the route here, she found that love of nature later kept company by a love of meditation and of Reiki as well. Let this insightful, sometimes autobiographical book slip into your heart and bring a smile to your face.
About the Author
When Ms. Love isn't writing or doing Reiki, she is sometimes out in her small, organic vegetable garden. She lives in a country setting in Conyers, Georgia, on the outskirts of Atlanta. She is now at work on her next book, about her experiences with Reiki and continues to create calendars that include her poetry and photographs. Ms. Love feels a strong agreement with the words of de Stael “The world is the work of a single thought, expressed in a thousand different ways.”
