In 2014, African Americans possessed the spending power of more that one trillion dollars which equaled the economy of Canada and United States foreign investments. Despite this economic milestone, the mortgage crisis of 2008-2009 reduced the wealth of African Americans by fifty percent. It is incumbent upon African Americans to begin to redirect their financial resources to increase their personal savings and investments to plan for financial shocks that are inevitable. The church can be a catalyst to empower congregants to manage debt, to save for emergencies, and to establish a financial legacy for future generations.
