We're A Self-Publishing Company
But what does "self-publishing" really mean?
Think of self-publishing as the middle ground. It's not up to you to do everything yourself (DIY), and it's not traditional publishing—we don't buy the rights to your book and make all the decisions from there. It's a relationship. We help you publish the book you want to bring into the world. We work together to bring your vision to life and make something great.
So, Balboa Press is a self-publishing company specialising in self-help titles that inspire and enlighten readers. We help you publish your self-help book by providing bundles of services called publishing packages. You choose a package and we work with you to fulfill all the services included. At the end of the process, you hold a finished book in your hand and become something brand new: a published author.
In addition, we're a division of Hay House, a New Thought and self-help traditional publisher founded in 1984 by author Louise Hay. This means our authors receive the added benefits of our partnership. There are special Hay House events Balboa Press authors get to participate in and Hay House monitors Balboa Press books for possible acquisition.
The experience and connections we provide give you everything you need to create and publish your book while maintaining control of the content. It's your story after all.

How Did We Get Our Name?
The Balboa Press name was inspired by Balboa Park in San Diego, California—a true source of joy for Hay House founder Louise Hay.
Named after Spanish conquistador Vasco Núñez de Balboa, Balboa Park is the largest urban cultural park in the United States and is home to fifteen major museums, nine performing arts venues, gardens covering 1,200 acres and the world-renowned San Diego Zoo.
The Balboa name reminds us to continue to look for new and marvelous discoveries in the world around us and within ourselves.

We've published over 8,000 books, all of which are related to mind-body-spirit subject matter and in line with our core value: to help people improve lives and the Earth.
We established these content standards because we want to have a positive impact on the planet. We want to publish books that help readers on their quest for emotional and spiritual well-being.
